Event
proceeds benefit the International Maritime Center’s
ecumenical outreach to seafarers of all faiths visiting San
Francisco Bay ports.

The International Maritime Center
The International Maritime
Center (IMC) is the Seaman's Club in Oakland California.
The facility was built in
1989 with a grant from the International Transport
Workers Federation, help from the Port of Oakland
and serves all the commercial ports in the Bay Area.
The International Maritime
Center is a "home away from home" for seafarers from
distant lands, as well as a community center for our
local bay area shipping and long shore community.
In addition to aiding seafarers, the International
Maritime Center works as a good citizen to build
community and provide services for waterfront workers,
longshoremen, and truckers regardless of religion, race
or nationality.
Our support comes from The Port of
Oakland, The International Transportation Federation
(ITF), donations from companies in the maritime
industry, and
private donations from our many friends throughout the
San Francisco - Oakland Bay Area.
The
IMC houses the offices of four interfaith humanitarian service
organizations, which provide services to seafarers and
others. These organizations are Bay Area Seafarers
Services,
Seafarer's Ministry of the Golden Gate, Apostleship of the Sea, and
The International Seafarer's Mission of San Francisco
Bay. Each year these dedicated
individuals visit more than 1000 ships, assist the
thousands of seafarers on shore leave and indirectly
serve many more thousands by delivering
books, newspapers, and games, to those who cannot get
ashore
on leave. It is estimated that more than 90,000
seafarers will enter Bay Area ports in 2007.
